Baseball releases 2007 schedule


Dolphins schedule features games against five NCAA Regional qualifying teams


Jan. 5, 2007 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University baseball team begins its Atlantic Sun Conference title defense on Jan. 30, as the Dolphins announced their 2007 schedule Friday.


The schedule, includes three meetings with preseason No. 13 Florida State also features three other teams from the NCAA Regionals last season - Bethune-Cookman, South Alabama and Stetson. In addition to the Seminoles, the Dolphins will also face five teams from the state of Florida, including 2005 national runner-up Florida, which the Dolphins have not faced since 2002.


The Dolphins will host the Seminoles on March 21 at Alexander Brest Field, while playing at FSU on April 10 and May 8. JU will also travel to Mobile, Ala., to face Auburn, South Alabama and Michigan State in the Coca-Cola Classic on March 23-25, respectively.


Other intriguing non-conference opponents include a home-and-home series with Georgia Southern (Feb. 13 & 28), a two-game home series against Connecticut (March 7 & 9), a four-game home stand against LaSalle (March 2-4) and a home game against future A-Sun opponent, Florida Gulf Coast, on May 2.


JU's 30-game A-Sun schedule includes road trips to Belmont, Mercer, Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State, while the Dolphins will host a three-game series with cross-town rival North Florida, Kennesaw State, Campbell, Stetson and Lipscomb. Stetson will host the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship for the sixth-straight year in DeLand, Fla., May 23-26.


The A-Sun continues to be one of the premier baseball conferences in the nation, sending three teams to the NCAA Regionals in four of the past seven seasons. JU returns All-America pitcher Matt Dobbins as well as first team all-conference outfielder Pete Clifford.


The Dolphins open their 2007 season by travelling to Florida A&M on Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.
